Cutters

Corn Processing Kernel Cutter

Hughes Equipment's machines to cut kernels from husked ears of corn in food processing operations, now including our Fresh Cutter, a smaller cutter well suited for fresh market and fresh frozen corn processing, especially in smaller operations.

Corn Cutter & Orienter:
Brochure   |    Video

Hughes Equipment’s Corn Cutter is designed to cut up to 2 tph of husked sweet corn, providing precisely cut corn kernels. Sometimes the operators can run more than the 2 tph if all their equipment optimized.

The system can either be manually fed, therefore eliminating the orienter, or fed through the use of a distribution conveyor.

Ears of sweet corn are conveyed to the orienter which uses tension to correctly orient the ear for cutting. That is achieved through the use of a tilted conveyor, bringing the ears to an angled tension gate.

If the ear is already oriented correctly, it will drop onto the cutter feed conveyor as is; if oriented backwards, the pinch point of the gate flips the ear around while dropping onto the conveyor.

Kernels are cut off with either a No. 2 or No. 3 cutting head.

The system self-clears any jams via an automatic reverse system. An optional cob pusher is available to clear broken pieces which may remain lodged in the knives when the system reverses.

To learn more about the Hughes Equipment Corn Cutter, call toll-free in the U.S., 866-535-9303 or, outside the U.S., 1-920-623-2000.

The saw is capable of cutting ears of either husked or unhusked sweet corn. When using husked corn, an additional air nozzle is included to help open the leaves to aid in husk removal. Rates for husked (yellow) ears to be 150 ears per minute, unhusked (green) to be 120 ears per minute with three operators. The lower rate compensates for operators having to deal with shanks, loading and trash removal.
